Muoyo Okome launches Avatar AI mobile app
Please provide an overview of your current business venture
Avatar AI is a mobile app that leverages the power of artificial intelligence and your imagination to create amazing personalized images. It works by taking 10-20 of your pictures/selfies as input to build you a personalized AI model. Once that model is complete, our AI algorithms create images on demand for you, based on the descriptions you type in. Once you're happy with your creation, you can share it on your favorite social media platforms, leverage in your Canva projects, and show it off to your family, friends, and followers. I'm often blown away by some of the images it creates for me. They look so much like me, but at the same time, I know it's not me at all. You kind of have to experience it for yourself. AI is amazing.
The app is currently available on iOS and will be live on Google Play shortly.
Why did you decide to pursue this business venture?
The generative AI wave really started to hit hard in summer 2022, and has only continued to intensify since then. The impact I saw immediately captured my imagination and made me want to get involved as a producer where I knew I would learn the most and have the opportunity to go deeper into it. Given that I've been producing apps for over a decade (such as Color Noir, a coloring app which has been downloaded over half a million times), I was well positioned to act on this quickly and jumped in without hesitation.
What has the journey been like?
Overall, I'm excited about it and having a lot of fun. For this particular app, I'm still very early in the journey. There have been a number of challenges & setbacks as always, but nothing too crazy. We brought it to market quite quickly and are just starting initial marketing efforts so that we can gather enough users to learn from. The goal at this stage is to learn how people are using & enjoying the app (our Facebook group is helpful for this), and see if there are any problems that we need to solve that would otherwise prevent us from scaling.
How can alumni support?
Like I said, it's all about learning at this stage. The biggest things that will be helpful are
1: people using the app, and
2: feedback.
